I have fond memories of the Magic 8 Ball^TM from when I was growing up in the late 70s and early 80s. That was back when no one wore seat belts, Daddy smoked cigarettes during car rides, and bicycle helmets weren't yet a thing.

In that context, young Klugmeister turned the 8 ball face down, asked aloud "Does Kelly M. have freckles all over?", shook up the 8 ball, and saw the answer float upwards to the small screen: "Signs point to yes."

Alas, the shy youngster never confirmed the freckle theory so he had to trust in the infinite wisdom of the Magic 8 Ball^TM.

Anyway, the above outbreak of treacly Klugmeister nostalgia triggered me to assume that the Magic 8 Ball^TM must be a toy whose time has come and gone—I don't recall seeing anyone from the younger generations playing with 8 balls during the last 40 years, for example—but the internet says Mattel sells about one million units a year of the famous fortune-telling toy. Who knew?

Perhaps the 8 ball's cameo appearances in the first three Toy Story movies have helped? Yes, maybe cartoon movies from 15 to 30 years ago are still helping to juice sales lol?
